Parent – Briefing 26 November 2021

Dear parents and carers

Internal refurbishment works
Next week work is commencing on our internal refurbishment works within the college. We are working closely with the contractor to ensure that disruption for our students is kept to a minimum, and to ensure that there is no impact on their teaching and learning.

As part of this work, low risk historic asbestos will be removed from the rooms that are subject to the refurbishment works. The contractors have employed a licenced asbestos removal company and they have been scheduled to work over weekends when the college is unoccupied. Once the removals are complete in each room, air quality testing will be undertaken prior to the rooms being reoccupied. Please be assured that there is no danger to students or staff and we are looking forward to the opening of new canteen eating space at the end of the refurbishment.

If you have any questions or concerns, please email Sophie Burrows, Project Manager on

Adventurous Learning Week
The College is looking forward to the return of Adventurous Learning Week 2022 during the week of 4th – 8th July. Information will be available on our website under the Adventure Learning tab in the coming weeks for the Year 9 Residentials and for the Year 7 and 8 adventurous learning activities. Adventurous Learning Week is an important part of the school curriculum because of its educational extra-curricular value and because it provides young people with the opportunity to develop and build important personal and social skills.

Places are limited for each activity and residential so to avoid disappointment, prompt return of the booking form is encouraged once it is available.

Year 10 Work Experience
For Year 10, the week of the 4th – 8th July 2022 is a work experience opportunity for students to explore an individually chosen place of work that should be as aspirational as possible. Students are allowed to organise work experience placements anywhere in the UK and plenty of preparation has already begun within IAG lessons at College. The aim is that all students will have written their letters to employers by

Friday 17th December to secure their placements. In addition, every parent should have received a work experience pack from Mrs Acaster, our Work Related Learning Coordinator with all of the information necessary, including the essential insurance forms, ideas for placements and template letters.  Do contact Mrs Acaster for any support needed or with any questions relating to work experience week on

Year 11 Exam Information
Next Tuesday, 30th November, during IAG Mr Rush will be presenting exam preparation information to support Year 11 students well in advance of their trial exams due to start on Monday, 10th January. You can find useful links on the website:

Best wishes
