Waterside C Race

Over the weekend year 12 students  Flo Culley and Jessica Larkum took part in the Waterside C race on the Kennet and Avon Canal. This race was the first for the girls after races A & B were cancelled due to the weather, so it was straight in at the deep end with 23.5 miles and 35 portages to complete in cold & wet conditions.

They both did amazingly, completing the course faster than expected and in great spirits.

We complete the Waterside series of races as part of our training towards the 125 mile Devizes to Westminster kayak marathon, sadly the girls also found out this weekend that this race has been cancelled due to the Corona virus outbreak which was tough news to take after a very tough training season.

The girls began training in September with ten other students. As things got tougher the other students withdrew leaving just Jess & Flo fighting on. There is one more race of the series due to take place in two weeks’ time which the girls are hoping will still go ahead. Here they will face 34 miles and 35 portages and it will really test them.
