Parent Briefing – 5 March 2021
Dear parents and carers
Full details of return to College from Monday 8th March including the testing timetable and consent forms can be found here http://www.launceston-college.cornwall.sch.uk/message-parents-student-return/
Please read these carefully with your child before they return to College. Year 8 and Year 9 students should take note of the change to their indoor space (Year 9 New Hall, Year 8 Gym) which is necessary to accommodate the test centre.
Please remember to inform the College immediately of any suspected or confirmed COVID 19 case and to stay at home if you have any COVID related symptoms.
Canteen provision from 8th March
We will return to a canteen offer from next week, with students being able to purchase food at specific times (not a food ordering service as highlighted in our previous briefing).
The grid below shows the rota for the use of canteens for the rest of this term.
Please ensure that Parent Pay accounts are topped up in preparation for your child’s return should they wish to use the canteen.

Year 9 Options
Thank you to all parents and students who have already completed and submitted their Options 2021 form. Following Year 9 Parent Teacher Meetings this week it has become apparent that there are a small number of students who may benefit from the opportunity to consult further with their teachers and tutors on their return to College in the week commencing Monday 8th March. We have therefore decided to extend the deadline for submission of Year 9 Options forms from Friday 5th March to Wednesday 17th March for students who are not yet clear about their choices. All students are able to amend their Options form up until this date by simply resubmitting any necessary amendments onto a new google form.
Chromebook return
Please can those students who borrowed a Chromebook from the College return them on their first day back next week, along with the charger and the bag if there was one provided. Once the student has been through for testing, can they return their Chromebook to the Library please.
Uniform
Students are to return to College wearing the correct uniform. If any parents or carers need support with the uniform requirements, please contact your child’s Pastoral Support Worker.
Reading
The library would like to say a big thank you to all the parents who made a special effort to come in and collect reading books for their children during lockdown. Just a reminder that on return even though there is no direct access to the library for students, they can still use the library’s click and deliver service.
NHS Testing
Undertaking regular, rapid coronavirus (COVID-19) testing helps reduce transmission of the virus. Parents and other adults in households with children at school or college, who do not have symptoms, can now access regular, rapid coronavirus (COVID-19) testing. This includes childcare and support bubbles.
Tests are fast, easy and completely free. There are different ways for a household, childcare or support bubble to collect their test to take at home, twice-weekly: · through your employer, if they offer testing to employees · by collecting a home test kit from a local test site – anyone aged 18 or over can collect 2 packs of 7 tests · by ordering a home test kit online – please do not order online if you can access testing through other routes, this frees up home delivery for those who need it most |
If you have any queries about the tests, and you live in England, please call 119 (free from mobiles and landlines). Lines are open every day from 7am to 11pm.
Thank you for your continued support
Kind regards
Jenn Burn
