Parent Briefing – 30 September 2022
Dear parents and carers
Year 7 Meet the House Team
A letter has been sent to all parents/carers of students in Year 7 inviting them into College on Tuesday 4th October to meeting the Heads of Houses and also the Year 7 tutors. The meeting is for parents/carers only and not students; this gives parents the opportunity to speak freely to us and other parents and to ensure we have enough room for everyone.

Parents are asked to make alternative arrangements for dropping off students away from the Hurdon Road car park and not to use the bus lane. There have been incidences recently of cars driving over the pedestrian walkway which is between the car park and bus lane and this is jeopardising the safety of students and staff.
If you are visiting the College on a prearranged appointment, please allow time to find alternative parking as the car park does reach full capacity. Visitors, staff and parents are not to park in the marked disabled bays unless they display a valid blue badge and are asked to park inside the white marked bays only. The lines which are greyed out are not parking spaces and parking is not available in the bus lane.
Thank you to all of our students who volunteered to represent the school and to help out at Open Evening last night. We had almost 100 students helping out with demonstrations and conversations in departments, as well as Year 8’s acting as tour guides around the building. Thank you also to the Year 11 House Captains and their deputies who helped to welcome visitors and to speak to them. A final thank you does out to you as parents and carers who organised collections and lifts home for our student volunteers at the end of the evening. Your support is very much valued and appreciated.
Thank you to those who have completed our online Emergency Closure Form. In the event that we need to close Launceston College in an emergency, such as extreme weather, parents/carers are advised to look for updates on the latest news section of our website, our Facebook page or through local radio. If the closure takes place during the College day, a text message will be sent.
We need to know how your child would make their way home from College if it were to close early and would ask that you complete the survey via the following link. Please complete the survey for each child that attends the College if you have more than one.
Meet our Pastoral Support Workers
Our 5 pastoral support workers are non-teaching staff that do an amazing job of supporting our students from Year 7 right through to Year 13. There is a pastoral support worker linked to each House team and one linked to the Sixth Form. All students are linked to a House when they join the College and stay in the same House throughout their time at Launceston College. Students can call in to the House Office or Sixth Form Student Support Office during the school day if they need support from a pastoral support worker. Parents can contact pastoral support workers if they need to share important new information about their child, if they have any questions or need support to help their child.
