Parent Briefing – 26 March 2021

Dear parents and carers

End of Term
Our last day of term is on Thursday 1st April 2021 when we finish for the Easter break. Due to the short time that students have been back in College, this will be a normal timetabled day and school will finish at the usual time of 3.15pm. Summer term starts for everyone on Monday 19th April. We will continue to operate under our current COVID protocols next term.

Home Testing
Students understandable asked several questions about home testing in IAG this week. In summary the answers to the most asked questions are:

  • Students should test twice per week
  • Students should report their results to two places; the NHS (website) and Launceston College (google form). These links are and and also on the College website.
  • Students should start testing on Sunday 28th March
  • Students should test on Sunday and Wednesday – if they miss a test, they should simply test the next day.
  • Students should test through the Easter holidays.
  • Students in Years 10-11 will receive another test pack next week, to see them through the Easter holidays.  All other year groups should have enough tests in their initial home test allocation to see them through Easter.

Lateral Flow Tests for Households
The test kits that are being sent home with students are for their use only. If other members of the household require tests then you will need to book these online or by telephoning 119. From Monday 29th March you are also able to collect tests from the Cattle Market Short Stay carpark in Launceston between 9am-3pm every Monday.

Thank you to everyone who has returned their loaned chromebook safely. Please can any student who has not returned their loaned Chromebook, return it along with the charger and bag (if one was issued) to reception on Monday morning.

Revision hub
To support Year 11 student’s revision, we have put together a revision hub. This revision hub has a range of revision materials for each subject and guidance about how they can be used to support your child in preparation for their end of Year 11 assessments. The revision hub can be accessed here: or through the College website on the curriculum, parent or student tab.

Reading News
Lexia PowerUp is a new reading support programme which increases children’s reading ages, allowing them to access the curriculum at a deeper level and enjoy reading in a more fluent way. The programme focuses on grammar, word study and comprehension. It is a bespoke programme designed for each individual pupil’s needs. If you are a Year 7 parent you may have received a letter inviting your child to take part. Please do encourage them to get on line, a minimum of 30 mins a week will make an impact and more would be greatly beneficial. Thank you for supporting us to support reading.

National Careers Week
There is a useful guide on our website at to assist parents when talking to students about their future career choices.

If you have any uniform at home that your child has grown out of but still has lots of wear left, we would welcome any donations to our supply here at College. We are in particular need for larger sized sweatshirts. If anyone needs support to access the appropriate uniform for their child, please contact the House Teams.

Thank you for your continued support.

Yours sincerely

Jenn Burn
