Parent Briefing – 22 October 2021

Dear parents and carers

As we approach half term I wanted to thank everyone who has made the time to attend parent events at College since September. We have held parent information evenings for Year 12, 11 and 10 and meet the tutor evening for Year 7 parents. These evenings are a welcome opportunity for us to meet you, to answer any questions you may have and to share key messages that are relevant to support your child’s learning and progress. Looking ahead to next half term, we have Sixth Form Open Evening for Year 11 parents and students on Thursday 18 November.

Next half term also sees the start of this year’s parent teacher subject meetings. Moving these events online last year received overwhelming positive feedback from parents, students and staff so we will be sticking with the online system. Next half term we have Year 11 and Sixth Form parent teacher meetings scheduled. The Year 11 parent teacher meeting will take place on Thursday 4 November and the booking system for parents/carers to make appointments will teachers will be open later today. The dates of parent teacher meetings for the rest of the academic year are as follows:

Year 12 and 13 – 09 December 2021

Year 10 – 13 January 2022

Year 9 – 10 February 2022

Year 7 – 10 March 2022

Year 12 and 13 – 31 March 2022

Year 8 – 05 May 2022

Please remember that parents do not need to wait for a scheduled event to contact the College if they are concerned about their son/daughter’s progress.

Lateral Flow Testing
Further test kits were issued to students earlier this week and we would ask that students continue twice weekly testing over the half term break and certainly before they return to school on Tuesday 2nd November. Please continue to report the results of the tests to the College and the NHS using the links on the front page of our website.

The test kits are different to the ones we gave previously been issued and the key difference being that they are nasal swabs only and it only takes 15 minutes for development rather than the previous 30 minutes.

Covid-19 Immunisations
Our First Aid Team have been liaising with Kernow Health about the immunisations for 12-15-year olds and letters were sent home earlier this week with consent forms. If you have not received a letter or consent form, please contact our First Aid Team. If you have any queries about the vaccine itself, please contact Kernow Health on 01872 221105.

Emergency Closure Procedures
Should we ever need to close the College in an emergency, such as extreme weather, fire or flood, we would need to send students home. Please could parents/carers complete the survey via this link indicating how your child should make their way home if College ever has to close early. Please fill this survey out for each of your children.

Free School Meals
Those families who are eligible for free school meals, the vouchers have been issued this week. Please check your emails (including the junk box) for the link. If you have any problems, please email
