Parent Briefing – 13 May 2022
Dear parents and carers
Year 7 Residential Meeting
Just a reminder that there will be a meeting about the up and coming Dartmoor residential for all Year 7 parents on Tuesday 17 May at 6pm in the Old Hall. This is an opportunity for us to share the plan for the residential, Year 7 Active Learning Week from the 04 – 08 July and answer any questions you may have. Students are welcome to attend this meeting but this is not essential as they will have their own briefing assembly this term. We look forward to seeing you then.
Concert for Ukraine
Thank you to all students who organised and performed in yesterday evening’s charity concert for Ukraine and thank you to all parents, students and staff who attended. Over £1,000 was raised last night with more to come. Full details and photographs will be shared in the latest news soon. Launceston College students’ musical talents are truly inspiring.
Year 10 Pre-Public Exams
Year 10 have sat their first sat of pre-public exams this week and we would like to thank all parents and carers for supporting the students through this.
Junior Mathematical Maths Challenge
The Maths Faculty have recently shared some outstanding results of Year 8 students who took part in the UKMT Challenge. Congratulations to all students who took part in the challenge were we received 21 bronze awards, 6 silver and 4 gold awards. Well done to you all.
College Catering Department
The catering team would like to invite students to try the new daily specials that are being offered in our canteens along with the new items that have been added to the menus. The breakfast service will also resume 8.15am until 8.45am every day, starting on the 16 May.
Beginning on Monday 09 May, we will be conducting a project in College about homework. As part of this project we will be turning off communication of both homework, House points and sanctions via Class Charts to both students and parents. This will last from 09 May until Friday 10 June. During this time, you will still be able to view the completion of your child’s homework on Class Charts by looking at the homework section, in particular the tabs that say Submitted, Not Submitted or Submitted Late.
Missing PE Kit Procedures
Our expectation and aim in PE are for all students to develop and explore a wide range of practical skills and support their health and wellbeing through raising physical activity levels. To support all students in achieving these aims, we have reviewed missing kit procedures to support students in being able to access all aspects of lessons on a consistent basis.
Where a student is missing some or all of their PE kit the expectation moving forward will be for students to borrow spare kit we hold in the department. We have lots of spare kit in a range of sizes which is clean and washed after each use. If longer term support with kit is required, this can be arranged where spare kit can be loaned on a longer term basis.
In the event that a student is not willing to accept this support and does not follow guidance given to them by their class teacher, they will then be sent to triage.
Please contact your child’s PE teacher or House team if you require support in sourcing PE kit items; we are more than happy to help where we can.
With kind regards
