Parent Briefing – 12 March 2021

Dear parents and carers

This week’s key message is very simply to say an enormous thank you for everything you have done this week to support our staggered return to College. It is been a pleasure to welcome young people back to College and to support their return to face to face learning. I have been enormously impressed by the sensible, responsible and mature way our students have conducted themselves as they have returned to College. Please remember we are here to offer support to parents and students that need any additional help to ensure a smooth return to College after such an extended length of time learning remotely from home.

From Monday 15 March, all year groups are expected to attend College as they normally would. Test two and three will take place by tutor group during lesson time over the next two weeks. The testing timetable is here as a reminder http://www.launceston-college.cornwall.sch.uk/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/Week-2-testing-rota-002.pdf Following the third test we will be distributing at home test kits and more details will follow about home testing as we reach that point.

We will soon be sharing a progress update with you to give you some information about your child’s learning from January to March 2021 during remote learning.

This week Mr Rush has spoken to students in Year 11,12 and 13 about assessments and has shared the latest information available with students and parents. http://www.launceston-college.cornwall.sch.uk/grading-gcses-a-levels-qualifications-summer-2021/

Thank you to Year 9 parents and students for completing Year 10 option choices so promptly. I know some really helpful conversations have been taking place between students and teachers this week to help make some final decisions ahead of the Wednesday17 March deadline for all returns.

Wishing you all a relaxing weekend following the activity of this week’s return to College.

Kind regards

Jenn Burn
Principal
