Parent Briefing – 10 June 2022
Dear parents and carers
Vision for the Trust
On Monday this week, Ben Parnell, our Trust’s new CEO, presented to most of the students about his vision for the Trust and about a name change for the Trust (currently Launceston College Multi Academy Trust). Ben is eager for parents to engage in the consultation process. You can find a short video from Ben here which outlines the proposed new names. You can submit your feedback via a short from here. Please note that this name change is for the Trust only. Launceston College will remain as Launceston College.
Year 10 Work Experience
The Year 10 Work Experience week is 4th – 8th July. Thank you to everyone that has already handed in completed forms. Please could any outstanding forms be given to Mrs Acaster as soon as possible. Replacement forms can be found here. Students without placements or completed paperwork will be expected to be in College for the week.
RSC Artsmark Alliance Platinum Award
We are pleased to announce that we have been awarded the RSC Artsmark Alliance Platinum Award. We have received this prestigious national award for our role in giving young people access to cultural and creative learning as part of the Royal Shakespeare Company’s (RSC) Associate Schools Programme (ASP). With links between creativity and mental health already well-established, research also shows that young people who study creative subjects are more likely to do well at school, be more employable and become more active, engaged citizens.
We received the specially created RSC Artsmark Alliance Platinum award in recognition of our outstanding commitment to cultural education, Shakespeare and live theatre over a number of years. Part of our remit as a Lead School is to recruit a network of other local schools to join the programme and the award also acknowledges our contribution in working to build a network of other local schools to join the programme. Artsmark Award is the only creative quality standard for schools and education settings, accredited by Arts Council England. The highest accolade possible (equivalent to Artsmark Platinum), an RSC Artsmark Alliance Platinum Award will be given to each of the ASP’s 25 Lead Associate Schools across England.

Charity Golf Day
There will be a charity golf day at Launceston Golf Club on Saturday 2nd July. Tee times will start from 1pm. It is open to students, staff and family with a friendly Texas Scramble 4 person per team competition. Players will all need their own equipment but there is no handicap required to enter and players without one will play off 28. The entry fee will be £50 per team with all monies going to the Launceston College chosen charity of Bunjako School as Launceston Golf Club have kindly offered the course use for free.
To enter students can get an entrance form from the Safeguarding Office or please email Dave Egford on firstname.lastname@example.org with the names of the players. Tee times will be issued closer to the date of the competition.
Lost property claim
We will be holding a lunchtime event on Wednesday 15 June in the Old Hall so that students who have lost items across the year can come and reclaim them. Please do remind your child to come and have a look if they have lost anything over the past year. Any items unnamed and unclaimed by the end of next week will then be passed on to our ‘Bring and buy’ uniform sale that we plan to hold later this term.
Uniform donations and sale
During these difficult times we want to be able to support the Launceston College community and are asking for donations of pre-worn uniform items that could form part of a sale later this term.
Our aim is to sell these items for a small amount with the funds going to a charity of students choosing. Students have already said they would like the money to be spent on something local and maybe even in College to benefit our students. We will let you know what they decide.
I am sure that there will be Year 11’s who would like to donate their uniform to other students and help support them.
We will happily accept any of the following items that are in good condition and that can be worn/ used again:
College logo jumper or sweatshirt
College logo PE t-shirt/rugby top/PE hoodie
Black school trousers
White polo t-shirts or shirts
College equipment i.e. calculators, pens, pencil cases etc
Please can donations be folded and bagged up and left with one of our receptionists by Friday 1st July.
The date of the sale has yet to be confirmed but will be before the end of term. We will be inviting the parents of Year 6 students who start College in September 2022 to come and have a look too.
Thank you for any help you can give.
With kind regards
