Parent Briefing – 10 December 2021

Dear parents and carers

Carol Service
Our annual Carol Service is taking place on Monday 13th December at 7.30pm in St Mary’s Church, Launceston. Given the recent Government announcements, we would like to take this opportunity to remind anybody attending the Carol Service that current advice suggests taking a Lateral Flow Device test before attending public events. We would also request face coverings are worn during the service when not singing carols.

Please note, you will be unable to attend if you have been identified as a close contact of a positive case of COVID Omicron variant as current Government guidance requires you to self-isolate.

Admissions Consultation
Each year schools must decide on their admission arrangements for the coming year. If the arrangements change, or no consultation has taken place for seven years, there must be a public consultation before the arrangements are decided upon. There have been no changes to our admission arrangements, but we are required to consult because we have not done so for seven years. We would like your views on the admission proposed arrangements.

The consultation will run from Monday 6th December 2021 and will close on Sunday 16th January 2022 and further details can be found here.

Year 8 Take your Child to Work
As part of the careers programme, we hope that as many students as possible will be able to part in this scheme which is during the week beginning the 7th February for one day during that week. Further information can be found on our website here.

Free School Meals
For those families entitled to free school meals, a voucher has been emailed to you today from Wonde, the voucher provider, to cover the Christmas break. If you have previously received your vouchers through the post, this will be posted to you today. If you experience any problems accessing the vouchers, please email with your contact telephone number.

Progress Updates
Information relating to your child’s progress for this term has been emailed to parents and carers this week. If you have not received this, please contact

End of Term Early Closure
As mentioned in the briefing last week, Launceston College will close at the earlier time of 1.30pm on Friday 17th December 2021. If this causes you any difficulties then please contact Mrs Preece, Attendance Officer, on 01566 771850.

School transport will leave at 1.40pm after our final celebration. The Go Cornwall buses, LAU-G10 (Warbstow/Tregare), LAU-G11 (North Petherwin), LAU-G12 (Saltash), LAU-G12B (Boyton/Ladycross), LAU-G425 (North Petherwin/Maxworthy/Langore), LAU-G236 (Upton Cross/North Hill) and LAU-G177 (Altarnun/Polyphant) are all service buses and unable to leave early due to their service timetables. We are hoping that parents of these students will be able to arrange for their children to be collected, as in previous years.

If this is not possible, can you please let Mrs Preece know by Tuesday 14th December in order that we can make arrangements for these students to be supervised until they can catch their bus at the normal leaving time of 3.15pm. If we receive confirmation next week that any of these buses are able to arrive earlier, a message will be sent to parents.

Emergency Closure Form
Thank you to all parents and carers who have completed our emergency closure form. If you have yet to do this, please could you complete the form as soon as possible:

Best wishes
