Parent Briefing – 1 October 2021

Dear parents and carers

Yesterday evening was a really welcome opportunity to invite parents and children in Year 5 and 6 into College for our annual Open Evening. This year’s event was adjusted to take account of continuing COVID guidance, and I would like to extend a very warm thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to the evening’s success. Current Year 7 students are transitioning well to College and the other year groups are settling down well to their learning and new routines. Thank you for the support and guidance you provide at home to ensure your children arrive at College with the correct uniform, equipment and a ready to learn attitude; these things really do make a big difference to everyone at College and ultimately to your child’s progress.

This year we are inviting parents and carers into College by year group throughout the year to provide the opportunity to find out more about your children’s learning and how you can help to support them at home. You will be emailed about these evening’s separately depending on which year group your child is in. The Year 12 parent information evening took place last week and there is information about the Year 7 evening’s below. The dates for the remaining year groups are as follows:

Year 11 Tuesday 12 October 2021

Year 10 Thursday 21 October 2021

Year 8 Thursday 11 November 2021

Year 9 Thursday 27 January 2022 (Options)

Year 7 Meet the House team
We would like to invite the parents of Year 7 students to an informal meeting at College to meet with your child’s tutor and House team. We want to create this opportunity for you to make connections with key College staff who will be supporting your child over the next five years. It will also give you the chance to meet with other parents of students in the same tutor group, to share any positive feedback from the first few weeks of term, ask any questions, share any concerns and look ahead at the year. We very much hope you’ll be able to attend on this evening.

In order to make it manageable and allow for social distancing we have split the meeting over two evenings and venues.

Please be aware that this meeting is just for parents and not for children; this gives parents the opportunity to speak freely to us and to other parents and also ensures that we have enough room for everyone.

We hope you are able to attend.

Lateral Flow Testing
Test kits were sent home earlier this week for the twice weekly testing of students. We would ask that this continues to be done on a Sunday and Wednesday and the results recorded on our website.

Face Coverings
Cornwall currently remains a designated Enhanced Response Area and as such students, staff and visitors are required to wear face coverings in communal areas and corridors. Please could parents ensure students continue to bring a reusable face covering to College with them as part of the equipment as we have noticed an increase in the number of students not bringing face masks to College.

Best wishes
