Parent Briefing – 1 April 2021

Dear parents and carers

As we approach the Easter break, I wanted to take this opportunity to thank you for your continued support throughout a term of unpredictability. Despite the uncertainty, I feel that together we have effectively negotiated the sudden switch to remote learning back in January, followed by the more gradual return to College and adaption to Lateral Flow Testing since the 8th March. Hopefully the Government’s roadmap for a gradual easing of COVID restriction will continue to move forward positively if as a nation we all continue to play our part responsibly over the coming weeks.

COVID Testing

I would like to take this opportunity to remind you that Lateral Flow Tests are for asymptomatic students only. A negative Lateral Flow Test does not rule out a COVID infection when your child is showing symptoms. Any student who is showing symptoms of COVID-19 should remain at home and book a PCR test immediately. You should inform us if your child is showing symptoms and again when you have the result of the PCR test, even if this is negative.

During the Easter holidays, if your child comes down with symptoms and takes a PCR test or if your child has a positive Lateral Flow Test, please email immediately.

Please continue to report all test results in the usual way

Sixth Form Parent Teacher Meeting

These meetings are taking place on Thursday 22nd April. Appointments will be online and can be booked here if you have a child in Year 12 or 13.

Year 9 Options

Thank you for supporting your child to complete their options form this term. We will be in contact with you during the first half of the summer term to confirm your allocated options. House Teams will be having individual conversations with parents where first choices are not available and these conversations will continue into next term.

Joint Council for Qualifications (JCQ)

Extensive guidance has now been published on how grades will be awarded this summer for Years 11, 12 and 13. Further information has been shared by Mr Rush and can be found here

Student Immunisations

The Kernow Health School Immunisations Team will be visiting in May and June to deliver routine immunisations. Consent forms will be e-mailed to the year groups involved. If you are unsure whether you have already given permission for your child to receive their immunisations, please contact Kernow Immunisation Team directly on 01872 221105.

Wishing you all a safe and a very relaxing Easter break.

Yours sincerely

Jenn Burn
