Open Evening 2019 Outdoor Learning at the ALC
Last night’s Open Evening was most successful with our 4 Ambassadors from the Castle ARB, (Dylan, Betsie, Nicole, Luke), doing a fantastic job, showing visitors around the Outdoor Learning Resource, talking to them and doling out stickers. This in itself showed how much progress they have made in communication skills, following instructions and using their initiative.
The weather was extremely kind to us and after early rain, remained dry to allow the cooking fire to be lit at 5pm. Students helped tend it, (hot dogs, tea/coffee, squash were available). Everyone was able to explore the site in relative comfort (no mud), thanks to the hard work of students across the year groups, who help lay the chippings trails throughout the year.
Once darkness fell OL was lit up to make it a magical experience. We now have a queue of primary pupils desperate to return as College students in years to come! Hopefully, seeing what resources are on offer, has made the difference to at least one family, who were undecided as to which school their child should attend in future.
Big ‘thank you’ to all the parents, visitors and students who kindly donated towards our activities, this is much appreciated. Also, to those volunteer students who helped guide them over to the ALC safely.
The overall impression from visitors without exception, was one of delight and appreciation. It was lovely to see some of our ex pupils returned with their own families, especially as they could remember what this site looked like in its derelict state, in years gone by. See you next year!!
