Masterchef Cooks up a Win for Trevithick

DSC_0008Students from Launceston College wowed judges in the final of a Masterchef competition. Ten candidates, who had progressed via a bread making challenge, had only an hour to prepare their showstopper using salmon, potatoes and asparagus. Jack Salter, 12, (victorious for Trevithick House) served up the winning catch with an impressive dish of herb encrusted salmon, parsley sauce and piped duchesse potatoes. Gemma Edwards and Dan Britten were close behind in second and third place for their efforts both in presentation and skills used. Also successful in reaching the final were Isla Rogers, Ollie Petersen, George Bearns, Anna Parsons, Charlie Vickery, Walter Tucker and Molly Wood.

The event was sponsored by Launceston Youth Council who very kindly donated the hugely impressive prizes of cooking equipment, bakeware and recipe books as well as providing all the ingredients use by the candidates.

The judges, including Josie Jones, Catering Manager, and Jack Jackson, Principal, were amazed at the skills and knowledge of the candidates, who were all just 12 – 14 years old. In particular they commented on how just a few simple ingredients could be delivered on a plate in so many different and interesting styles.
