Launceston Agricultural Show Logo

At the end of 2013, Launceston College Graphic Design Teacher, Andrew Blackburn, set his Year Ten students a design brief from Launceston Agricultural Association.  The brief was to design a logo for the Launceston Show.  Show Secretary, Naomi Hutchings, said that other local shows had identifiable logos and the Committee wanted something similar for Launceston Show.  The students got busy and alongside their college work and exam studies came up with some designs which were presented to the Show Committee.  “The Committee were very impressed by the skills of the students and their artistic abilities.  We managed to whittle it down to a few students, who then tried to incorporate the iconic Launceston Castle into their designs”.

Emma Platt’s design was chosen, as it encompassed the show as a whole, rather than just one area.  “I like the castle shape as it is easily distinguishable as Launceston Castle and not just a standard castle drawing.  Emma has worked really hard with this project as she has had coursework to keep up with as well. She has been in regular contact with me and making any little adjustment that I have asked for.  It has been a real privilege to work with her.”

Launceston Show was established in 1887.  Due to the cancellation of shows during the Foot and Mouth epidemic and 2012 due to the appalling weather, the 125th Launceston Show is due to take place on Thursday 24th July 2014, where along with all the usual exhibits will be celebrity TV Chefs James and Chris Tanner.
