Hockey Success for Boys and Girls.
On Thursday 28th November, the Launceston College U16 boys hockey team once again became County champions. During the round robin tournament the boys had a clean sweep beating Penair 3-0, Mounts Bay 6-0, Truro School 1-0 and finished with a 7-0 win against Richard Lander. Oliver Rundle displayed superb captaincy throughout the tournament, guiding several players in their debut games. The team are excited in qualifying for the regional tournament in February and we wish them every success.
The team consisted of Oliver Rundle (captain), Hamish Hudson, Shane Davey, Isaac Kirwin, Ben Harrison, Riley Prynne, Jude Farr, Joe Stewart, James Adams, Ryan Downing, Keith Maynard and Owen Newport.
The U14 girls Launceston hockey team became County champions having secured a 2-0 win against Newquay Tretherras and Redruth and three 0-0 draws against Truro, Penair and Richard Lander putting us runners up in the pool. Launceston played Truro High School in the semi-final and 2 quick goals early on secured a 2-0 win gained them a place in the final. The final was a battle against Truro school but Launceston became victorious with a 2-1 result to finish and become County champions.
The U14 girls hockey team consequently ventured up to Millfield to the regional hockey tournament on 26th November having becoming county champions 2 weeks prior. The competition was strong but Launceston played well and can be commended for their efforts coming 3rd in their pool. They unfortunately lost 2-0 to Hereford Catholic School and to Dauntsey 2-0 and retained a draw against Millfield 2 despite Launceston having the majority of possession. The experience of playing at this level has motivated the team to continue to work hard for the rest of the season and beyond.
