Geology students visit Imerys
A2 Geology students from Launceston College have recently visited Imerys UK Ltd in central Cornwall. This was a fantastic opportunity for the students to meet and talk with working geologists who gave a full guided tour of one of Europe’s largest working mineral quarries. Launceston’s geologists have recently been studying units on economic geology and Earth resources and the visit will have helped students better understand how the China Clay industry works and its significance to mid Cornwall. Importantly, as a number of the students are going on to study geology at various universities, this gave them real insight into what geologists do.
Imerys were fantastic hosts on the day and this continued links with the organisation who also sponsor The Imerys Award for Science given to deserving students at the College.
