Construction Presentation Evening

Launceston College Construction unit held another successful presentation night where students were awarded the City & Guild examination certificates, after the completion of the level 1 and level 2  technical diploma in bricklaying, which is undertaken at the Construction Unit on the Pennygillam Industrial Estate as part of the vocational provision of the College.

A packed audience witnessed the students receiving awards from county and national competitions as well as NVQ level 2 & 3 qualifications and the culmination the national competition qualifying certificates.

Mike Goodman who runs the unit said  “We are indebted to the local building contractors who continue to support us by taking and extending the initial training of our  students.  That in turn enables them to gain the NVQ from local construction sites. This is ongoing and we have more students waiting in the wings for a work position from early February.”

Trevor Brittain Head of Vocational commented  “the evening was a great success and shows the real achievement of students at construction. Our thanks go to local employers who have supported the unit along with Mike Goodman and Clare Dawe for their outstanding training.  The students have a real high quality class provision at the construction unit, which prepares them for the real world outside of education”.

The evening was warmly received by Governors, parents, students, staff and the Principal of the College, Jack Jackson.  Wishing everyone everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
