Chemistry Creativity and Competition
Following an intensive time of assessment, Year 12 chemistry students at Launceston College embarked on a two week period of chemistry creativity and competition. The task was based upon an undergraduate style dissertation project where students had to create and verbally present, to their peers and Dr Cooper, Dr Lancaster and Mr Adams, an A0 size poster accompanied by a 5 minute verbal presentation. Students could choose a topic of their choice, pitched at an appropriate level. The results of this task were fantastic with 15 outstanding entries. The teacher-judges found it very difficult to choose a winner based upon scientific content, verbal and visual presentations and overall originality. However, the final results announced this week were;
- Chloe Vickery, a comparison of the chemistry and effects of Theobromine v Caffeine on organisms.
- Ellie Clements, Liquid Crystals
- Poppy Martin-Williams, Anti-depressants
- Izzy Johnson, Cisplatin
- Archie Dinnis, Anabolic Steroids
Well done to all students involved; maybe the start of fantastic EPQs?
